Carey Jewitt is Professor of Learning & Technology, at UCL Knowledge Lab, and Vice-Dean of Research at the Institute of Education, University College London, UK. She researches how digital technologies re-mediate communication and interactions. She is engaged in developing multimodal and visual research theory and methods, and interdisciplinary methodological innovation working with computer scientists, engineers and artists among others. Carey has directed many research projects in this area, most recently InTouch (in-touch-digital.com) which explored the social implications of how touch is brought into the design and use of digital devices and environments. Her recent publications include Digital Touch (Polity Press, 2024), Introducing Multimodality (2025), and papers in a wide range of journals including ToCHI, VIRE, Frontiers of Computer Science, New Media & Society, Human-Robot Interaction, and Futures.
